- Please prioritize finishing “The Rockpile” reading and assignment from Thursday. This needs to be completed in your ELA notebook, not via Google Docs. Google Docs are not an option.
- If you have finished Thursday’s assignment, please select a short story from The Library of Short Stories. In your notebook:
- Identify the protagonist, objective, and obstacles of the story.
- Using bullet points, list every action that occurred or decision that a character made, in order. You will need to review the short story you’ve read to accomplish this. (We will be looking at conflict next week in class.)
- If time remains, one student may host the Parts of speech Blooket.
Thursday, September 12
- Read the short story “The Rockpile” by James Baldwin.
- Click here to access it.
- Read both “Before You Read” and “The Rockpile.”
- After completing the reading, respond to “Identifying Facts” and “Interpreting Meanings.”

- After reading, in your notebook, for 10 minutes, recall the protagonist’s journey. Answer the following questions:
- What is the protagonist’s objective?
- Do they accomplish their objective?
- What obstacles are in their way that prevent them from achieving their objective?
- Recall a time you decided to make the wrong choice. Did you go through with the decision? Why or why not? What obstacles stood in your way?
